Choosing where to study full-time is a big decision. This simple, fun quiz will get you thinking about what type of school would suit you best. Take a pen and paper and note down whether you answer A, B, C or D to each question..... 1. What is your favorite genre of dance to do? 2. Which of these dancers would you most like to be like?

Pilates, Ballet, Jazz Progressions, Lyrical, Hip-Hop C. Vocals, Jazz Progressions, Broadway Jazz, Tap, Theatre Studies D. Yoga, Contemporary, Ballet, Choreographic Creation, Anatomy 5. Where would you most like to be 5 years from now? 6. What are you most likely to be complemented on? A. Your ballet technique - including lines, extension, jumps or pirouettes. B. Your attack, picking up commercial choreography quickly or suave style. C. Pizzazz Darling! Jazz technique, picking up jazz choreography quickly, or vocals. D. Your connection to the floor, flow, contact improvisation or creativity. RESULTS !! MOSTLY A'S You most enjoy and/or are strongest at ballet. Look for a full-time ballet school with past students who have had professional careers. Even better if the school is attached to a company where you could potentially get your foot in the door. You want a schedule with floor-barre, pilates, ballet barre, centre work, pas de deux, repetoire, pointe, national/character and legitimate classes in jazz and contemporary. Many ballet companies want dancers with contemporary skills and some ballet dancers later side step into jazz work with places like Disney so a school which can give you both strong ballet technique and versatility is a real win. MOSTLY B'S Your favorite style is either commercial jazz or hip hop - or both! You should look for a well established full time jazz school with a good reputation. You need a school which can give you versatility, strong technique help you make connections in the industry. Look for a schedule with a variety of dance styles, technique classes (ballet and jazz) and classes in allied areas such as modelling, singing, acting and acro. You will need a school which can help you become versatile and fast to pick up choreography to be competitive in this market! MOSTLY C'S You most love/ are best at musical theatre or broadway jazz. You also have talent (or are willing to learn) to sing and act. You should look for a reputable full time Musical Theatre school which can help you become a genuine triple threat. You will need to be strong in dance, singing and acting. Look for a schedule which includes technique classes (jazz & ballet), choreography, tap, singing, voice and theatre studies. You want a school with success stories of students who have gone on to have professional careers in musical theatre. MOSTLY D'S You most love contemporary or modern dance. Look for a full time contemporary dance school which offers classes in contemporary techniques, ballet, pilates, mind/body connection and choreographic process. If the school is connected to a contemporary company where you could potentially get a foot in the door then this is also a bonus. As with the other genres of dance, you should look for a school with a history of past success stories of dancers who have gone on to work professionally.
